Europe in November: 199 Seniors Head to Usedom for Nine Days

European organizers have 330 tournaments on the November 2026 calendar, 145 of them classical and 185 rapid. The classical events below are the ones most worth planning around.

The biggest field so far belongs to a seniors’ event: the 26. off. Senioreneinzelmeisterschaft, run by the Landesschachverband M-V in Ostseebad Heringsdorf on Usedom. This is the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern seniors’ championship. It starts November 25 and runs to December 3, nine days, with 199 players registered. That makes it both the largest and the longest event in this selection.

Spain’s hotel events

The IV Internacional Chess Open Hotel Cap Negret in Altea is an over-65 section. It runs November 7 to 14 and has 125 players. An over-50 section of the same event has 44 more.

At the end of the month, Benidorm takes over. The XXIII Open Internacional Gran Hotel Bali 2026 starts November 28 and runs to December 5 with 121 players. The XXIII Torneo Internacional Gran Hotel Bali Grupo B covers the same dates and has 131. Club Deportivo Tossal de la Cala organizes both.

Money in Madeira, a jubilee in Guernsey

The Funchal Chess Open is billed in its title as carrying 13,000€ in prizes. It runs November 26 to December 2 at the Externato Princesa Dona Maria Amélia, with 36 players registered so far. The Madeira association AXRAM is the organizer. On the mainland, the XX Festival Internacional de Xadrez da Figueira da Foz, Torneio Sabir Ali draws 101 players from November 8 to 15.

Guernsey marks its 50th international festival from November 1 to 7 at the Peninsula Hotel in Les Dicqs. The Open has 30 players, and the Challengers section has 33.

Central and eastern Europe

The Hradec Kralove Open 2026 is a FIDE open at the Cernigov hotel, November 7 to 14, with 50 players.

Kardzhali hosts a festival November 6 to 8. The Bulgarian-listed entry has 57 players, and a second listing for the same dates has 53.

Also on November 6 to 8, the Festivalul International de Sah Cupa Satori Art takes place in Amara, Romania, with 32 players. In Serbia, the XI Open Turnir Božidar Kićović - Kića runs November 5 to 8 near Banja Koviljača and has 24 players.

Further north

Iceland’s Sel Hotel Myvatn / Myvatn Ol Open 2026 runs November 19 to 22 at Skjólbrekka, organized by Godinn Chess Club, with 26 players. Switzerland’s 13. Luzerner Seniorenopen 2026 is in Horw from November 16 to 21 with 28 players.

In Malta, the XYChess Classic Grand Prix - November is a two-day classical event at the XYChess Centre in Gzira on November 21 and 22, with 12 players.
