West Rand Closed Brings 94 Players to Krugersdorp on Nov. 28

Five tournaments are tracked in Africa for November 2026. Three are classical and two are rapid, spread across South Africa, Nigeria, Algeria and Tunisia. The biggest field so far is in Krugersdorp.

West Rand Closed

West Rand Closed 2026 is played on Nov. 28 at HTS N Diederichs High School in Krugersdorp.

It is a classical event with 94 players registered, the largest known field of the month. Eazy Tshabadira is listed as organizer.

Edo Chess Classic in Benin City

The EDO CHESS CLASSIC runs Nov. 7 and 8 in Benin City, Nigeria. It is the only two-day event on the list.

The Brainy Brain Chess Foundation and Aidia Sports Academy organize it, and three players are registered so far.

Bojanala in Brits

Also on Nov. 7, Bojanala’s Circuit Championships 4 of 4 is held at Brits Primary School in Brits, South Africa.

The Bojanala Chess Federation organizes this classical event. One player is registered at this point.

Rapid events in North Africa

In Algeria, the Journée Nationale d’El Moudjahid (Bejaia 2026) is a rapid event on Nov. 12 at Ni3ma Academy in Bejaia. Ni3ma Academy and Bougie Club Echecs organize it, and 77 players have registered.

Tunisia opens the month.

The ZEPHYR CHESS CHALLENGE 1st November 2026 is a rapid event on Nov. 1 at the Le Zéphyr shopping centre in La Marsa, Tunis. TICA is the organizer, with 49 players registered.

Looking back

For a sense of how a big African field can look, see how September’s 381-player Cairo rapid looked. November’s registration numbers are still early, and the Nigerian and Brits fields in particular have room to grow before the first rounds are played.
