History
The London Chess Classic began in 2009 and was one of the three events in the first Grand Chess Tour in 2015, alongside Norway Chess and the Sinquefield Cup. Magnus Carlsen won four of the first seven editions.
There was no invitational in 2020, 2021 or 2022. It returned in 2023 with a strong English flavour: Michael Adams and Gawain Jones won the first two editions back, and Nodirbek Abdusattorov won in 2025 with a round to spare.
