Nodirbek Abdusattorov
The Uzbek grandmaster who became world rapid champion at 17, beating Ian Nepomniachtchi in a playoff. That made him the youngest open world champion in any time control, younger than Magnus Carlsen was for his first.
2026 has been his best year. He won Tata Steel with 9/13 and the Prague Masters, then led Uzbekistan to Olympiad gold on home soil in Samarkand, going unbeaten on board one with 8½/11 and taking individual gold.
He and Javokhir Sindarov have been rivals and teammates since childhood. He also won the 2025 London Chess Classic and finished runner-up to Carlsen at the 2025 World Blitz Championship.
