In 2022 he was one of 44 elite Russian players to sign an open letter protesting the invasion of Ukraine, and later that year won the Russian championship in an armageddon playoff.

At the 2025 World Cup he knocked out Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa in the fourth round.
