History
Norway Chess was founded in 2013 and quickly became one of the strongest events on the calendar, helped by Magnus Carlsen’s home appeal. Since 2019 every drawn classical game is followed by an armageddon game for extra points, which guarantees decisive results every day.
Carlsen has won it seven times. In 2026 the event moved from Stavanger to Oslo, and Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa became the first Indian winner, beating Carlsen in both of their classical games.
